"It is not the winning but the spirit of fair play, enjoyment and safety that is paramount". This is the essence of Youth Rugby and the code by which Youth Rugby is played at Abingdon RFC.
Abingdon Rugby Club is a community club with a current emphasis of encouraging every player to achieve full potential whilst enjoying both the sporting and social aspects of the game. Founded in 1931, Abingdon RUFC boasts a playing membership of 250+ with a full range of Mini and Junior teams to compliment the three Senior sides. Fully qualified coaching is available to those of any age or gender who wish to improve performance or who have simply never played the sport and want to give it a go! We enjoy our own dedicated facilities of a large modern clubhouse with four pitches and a floodlit training area. The Mini/Juniors Rugby Season at Abingdon RUFC starts on the first Sunday in September. To those of you joining us at Abingdon RUFC for the first time please Use this website as a source of information. You can download the rules and regulations from for each age group from the relevant team page.
Abingdon RFC Minis welcomes players from age 5 years to 16 years. The practical lower age limit is 6 although well co-ordinated rising 5s would not be turned away. Under 6’s are unable to play in competitive games for insurance reasons. Regular coaching sessions are held on Sunday mornings between September and April and the Clubs Youth Rugby teams participate in festivals, leagues and tournaments throughout the season as well as at the annual Oxfest, where they compete against other Youth Rugby clubs throughout Oxfordshire in a showcase of Youth Rugby. The Club also organises annual tours to participate in Youth Rugby festivals and tournaments in the uk and europe. Participation in Youth Rugby at Abingdon RFC is open to children, both boys and girls, Mini Rugby starts from U7 and moves by year up to Under 12. Beyond 12 years old players progress to Junior Rugby which is organised into four age groups at Under 13,14,15 and Under 16. All participants must complete the Club's registration procedure and pay the required registration fee.
We are a fully insured club and have an outstanding record for safety, if you have any concerns about safety you can read our safety info on the team pages. Your childs safety is paramount at Abingdon RFC at all times. We are a community club and have forged a partnership with London Wasps as well as reduced prices for games we also benifit form coaching sessions for the coaches as well as the children. We really are one big family as Abingdon Rugby Club and we are always looking for new players of all ages and gender. |
